Activities
Although my research career has just begun, I
have accumulated a strong background in several research fields and have
developed a strong research foundation that will help to ensure my future success
as a Marine scientist. Over the last three years, I have gained graduate and postgraduate
research experience in the two main areas of Marine Biology: field research,
laboratory techniques, and field data collections-based research.
Only
six months into my graduate Research work at Seagrass meadows ,Southern Sri
Lanka , I have gained additional
experience in field, lab research. I was surveying four sites in southern
part of Sri Lanka. They were Dikwella, Dondra, Hikkaduwa and Ahangama.A total
of four seagrass species, 19 sea weed species and five epiphyte species were
identified. Line intersect transect method and visual sense method used in
sampling process.
In
fauna distribution 38 invertebrate species were identified and highest
density was found in Hikkaduwa and highest diversity with Dondra .In
vertebrate level 24 vertebrate species were identified and highest density in
Dondra and highest diversity in Hikkaduwa.
For
my master research I am doing the ecological sustainability of Blue swimming
crab fishery in Nothern Sri Lanka with collaboration with the University of
Colombo Sri Lanka.
As an assistant Marine Environment officer in a government authority did many marine protection activities like reestablishment of seagrass, mangrove and sand dune vegetation in Northern and eastern part of Sri Lanka.
